>>>SUBMISSIONS WILL OPEN FOR HIVideo 2018 SPRING 2018<<<

After the success of HIVideo 2016 (full press release available to view here: https://balaclavaq.wordpress.com/2016/11/21/hivideo-2016/, I am delighted to present the brief for this years screening.

In 2016 artist films were shown to audiences in galleries and venues simultaneously on world AIDS day in in Toronto (Canada), Paris (France), California, New Mexico and Puerto Rico (USA), Manchester (UK) and Oudtshoorn (South Africa), along with the aforementioned countries Balaclava.Q is also in discussion with venues in Norway, Germany, Greece, Italy and New Zealand.

In 2017 Balaclava.Q is working in partnership with RAMP: Recycled Medicine Campaign, LGBT Consortium UK and the global movement Prevention Access Campaign.

In an effort to align HIVideo 2017 with the aims Prevention Access Campaign This year’s theme is:

UNDETECTABLE = UNTRANSMISSABLE which can be drilled down to: EDUCATION U=U.

We have refined the template for artists and facilitators and it is as follows:

HIVideo seeks to challenge audiences and artists alike:

ARTISTS:

Artists will be presented with a brief 2 months before WORLD AIDS DAY (1st December).  Artists are challenged to create and produce the piece in the two month time frame.

All films must be under 10 minutes long.

Each film must contain the opening credit: Balaclava.Q presents (using the Balaclava.Q logo – attached to this email)

Each film must contain one of the following statements as text or dialogue:

1. Undetectable = Untransmissable

2. Equal access to HIV prevention

3. An undetectable Viral load means that HIV is untransmissable.

Due to this years theme being EDUCATION U=U, artists are asked to educate audiences through their films and educate other artists. So with that in mind each artist is asked to partner with an established or emerging artists to co-produce the piece and educate up and coming artists about queer issues, Balaclava.Q and producing films.

Artists are also asked to provide full credits at the end of each film acknowledging credit where due, any copyright notices and again the Balaclava.Q and HIVideo partner logos – all of which can be provided on request.

All films must be in English language or with English subtitles. If the film is spoken in English artists are asked to — where possible  — provide subtitles in another language.

Finally artists must be made aware that there is no budget available and that all costs must be covered by the individual artists. Balaclava.Q will be applying for statutory funding for HIVideo 2018.

AUDIENCES:

Audiences will be challenged by being asked to view a series of conceptual and punk/queer aesthetic moving image pieces which explore the aforementioned issues.

Artists are asked to present a final version of the film to Founder & Director Stiofan O’Ceallaigh no later than midnight on 24th November 2017.

ALL ARTISTS ARE KINDLY ASKED TO CONFIRM THEIR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST IN WRITING NO LATER THAN 27th September which is coincidentally International Male HIV Awareness Day by emailing balaclava.q@gmail.com.
