Andrea Romano, class of 1976, currently based in Modena. Born and raised in Lecce (Italy), a city which is artistically outstanding. Also called “The Florence of the South.” Romano received his high-school diploma in gold-working and jewellery design. He approached photography very early on, working as assistant to a local photography store. Over the next few years and during his travels around the country he took the chance to approach many other artistic fields, including painting and singing. Romano is passionate about the magic of “subculture”, the history of witchcraft, and the art and discipline of tarots; respectfully intrigued by all of life’s complex philosophies and particularly interested in the religious and oriental, taking a lot of influences from written texts and literature.
Romano continues to work privately creating photographs. His main focus and attraction has always been the male body, in all of its several forms. He never applied a deep meaning to express with his artist works, everything he has done, it’s a pure, simple, genuine celebration of the male body.
The following works presented to Balaclava.Q are random samples of the kind of portraits and photography I’ve done over the last ten years. It’s just a small selection to introduce myself and let you get in touch with my idea of photography, my intimate relationship with light and shadows and my willing of explore the male body from different angles and points of view.
